For several years Surrey Connect offered an online Summer Session that ran from April to August. To provide students with even more flexibility and choice, Surrey Connect has moved to a 12 month school completion calendar. So, no more waiting until April and no more tight timelines (trying to finish by August 5th). Students in Grades 10, 11 and 12 may now take courses at ANY TIME (provided they are not double dipping – taking the same course at two schools at the same time).
Example 1: Danica is a Grade 11 student who wants to re-take Math 11 Principles to improve her mark. Once Danica has dropped or completed Math 11P at her neighbourhood school she may register for her online Math 11P course with Surrey Connect. Danica can register for this course on April 11th, May 14th, June 28th – whenever – and work on her course for up to 12 months until it is finished. She can, for example, start the course in April and finish it in August – ready to take Math 12 in her neighbourhood school starting September.
Example 2: Kayla is a Grade 10 student who wishes to take one, possibly two, online courses during the summer months. Kayla starts her first course - Biology 11 in March as she plans to finish it by August. Kayla starts her second course, Physical Education 11, in early July (while the weather is nice) and plans to finish it by October. Kayla has 12 months to finish each course but can finish each course sooner if she wishes.
Example 3: Andrew is an ambitious Grade 9 student who wants to get started on his Graduation Program as soon as possible. He is planning to work hard and graduate a year early. Since Andrew finished Social Studies 9 in 1st semester at his neighbourhood school he decides to take Social Studies 10 online. He can start this course at any time. So he starts his SS 10 online course on May 6th and works tremendously hard, finishing the course on August 5th. Andrew enrols in Art 10 on August 9th and plans to finish this course by the end of December while attending his neighbourhood school and taking 4 courses.
Teachers are available throughout the summer (face-to-face) to supervise module exams and to provide support and assistance.
Cross-enrolled students (students who attend other schools full time) are limited to 2 courses at any one time. Special permission must be obtained from an administrator to take more than 2 courses.
